Who Has a Story to Tell, and Who Should Tell Their Stories

Author by Design Do you have a Story?

Have you ever shared an anecdote at a party or meeting?

Do you ever share your mistakes to discuss learning opportunities?

What about using the experiences of trials you overcame?

Every one of these minor events or experiences is a story.

We all use personal experiences to share, teach, grow, and engage with others. Look at motivational speakers selling out events because they are willing to stand up and share their experiences and the lessons they’ve learned.

This same method can be transferred to business leadership.

Whether you have fun, business-related anecdotes that illustrate the effectiveness of your services, or a personal obstacle you overcame to start or grow your business, those stories are what attract people.

Stories are engaging and inspiring.

Businesses thrive off working with employees, vendors, contractors, etc., who believe in their message and vision.

To attract those ‘true believers,’ you must give them something to believe in. Like your story, your journey.

Whether you’ve led the most mainstream, seamless, uneventful life, or have taken a wild journey from where you started to where you are, there’s a story in your experiences and lessons.

Most business leaders don’t lead mainstream, seamless, uneventful lives, in my experience.

A ghostwriting colleague told me once that one of her clients led an unremarkable life and didn’t have a story for a book.

That tells me she wasn’t asking the right questions, because everyone has a story to tell, and with the right storyteller as your guide, you can write an impactful book fueled by your story.
