Women Business Leaders Pave the Way for Other Women Business Leaders
Women business leaders are pioneers in a space that has historically been male-led, and it’s not an easy road to travel. It’s hard enough to stand out in the business world with how saturated the markets are and how competitive the space is.
For women, the battle is even harder, because it isn’t just about standing out with an innovative or inventive idea or product, it’s about proving you belong in a “men’s” space.
These experiences matter, and if they are shared with the world, they can change the way women in business are approached and treated.
Women’s Voices in Business Matter
The gap between men and women business leaders has shrunk significantly over the past couple of decades; however, there is still a noticeable difference. For example, more men business leaders author business books than women business leaders.
While there is no definitive data as to why men are more likely to author business books, there is a void in the market for women business leaders as book authors that should be discussed and addressed.
When women author business books, they normalize women’s intelligence, expertise, experience, and advice. As a byproduct, it normalizes women in leadership positions, which can quite literally change the landscape of the corporate and business world to be more inclusive and accepting of women. The trials and obstacles women face while building their careers or businesses aren’t the same challenges men face, and these challenges aren’t discussed enough.

For most of history, women have been expected to be silent, and even though they are dominating new spaces and making names for themselves like never before, there is still an expectation of silence.
By stepping out of the cone of silence and authoring a book with a full story of trials, obstacles, struggles, and ultimately successes, it’ll bring the struggles and truths to light. Not only does this spotlight help educate others on the differences men and women face in the corporate world, so that perhaps there can be true equality, but it also inspires and empowers other women to face those obstacles.
Women business leaders hold a very special place in business, the corporate world, and in society. They are severely underrepresented, and the differences between the paths men and women have to walk to get to the same place aren’t talked about or shared enough.
Obstacles like juggling motherhood with a leadership position, sexism and sexual harassment in the workplace, constantly having to prove their intelligence and credentials to men, and getting passed over for promotions to men with fewer qualifications, it’s an ongoing struggle that few women in leadership discuss openly, though women coaches do try to inspire others to overcome those challenges.
A book is the perfect place to get raw and vulnerable with personal experiences that connect with audiences and are far more impactful than a coach discussing their process and referencing a few case studies.
The more women business leaders who step up and author books, the more their voices make an impact.
Business Books Authored by Women Stand Out
On a Forbes 10 Best Business Books of 2025 list, only two of them are exclusively authored by women, seven are authored by men, and one is a compilation with several authors. It’s a small sample, but a list like this shows a pattern of more books authored by men in business than by women.
When the majority of a list is dominated by male authors, the women really stand out. They are the anomalies, the eye-catching, unique presence.
In business, standing out is the difference between success and getting left behind. There are a lot of ways to stand out through marketing, providing a product or service that was missing from the market, filling a niche, and, of course, inspiring consumers with a compelling story and face of the company.

Most business leaders have to be charismatic in the public eye and make themselves likeable and relatable on their social media accounts. They need a message, a story, and an inspiring presence. All elements that stand out against others in the same market.
Several business leaders choose to author a book as a means to set themselves apart. For women, it’s an even greater opportunity to set themselves apart, because there are fewer women to contend with, which automatically positions them to catch eyes and draw attention when on a bookshelf, or a book list, or when women business leaders talk about their books at events or on talk shows.
The number one book on the 2025 Forbes List was authored by one of the two women who made the list—Margaret Heffernan.
Business books written by women are impactful, they make a difference, and they stand out. There aren’t enough of them, but they could change the course of a business.
Too long throughout history, women’s voices have been silenced, their struggles dismissed, and their presence in the workforce undermined. The more voices that come forward and share their stories, the more normalized women in leadership become, as does accepting advice and expertise from women.
Women uplift other women, and business books authored by women not only support and propel the authors to the forefront of their arena, but they also provide a space for empowerment for other women.
