An author is someone with published written works in their names.
A writer is a person who uses written words in different styles, techniques, and genres to communicate ideas, present information, entertain, and/or inspire feelings.
But can you be one without being the other?
Professional writers aren’t always considered authors. A writer like me who ghostwrites doesn’t have works published in their name. But I am a prolific writer who gets paid for a skillset.
Published authors, especially business book authors, coaches, nonfiction authors, prolific business or niche article authors, and other busy professionals often work with contracted or hired writers (ghostwriters) for their content.
There are ghostwriters in the music industry who provide lyrics and music for artists.
It’s possible to be a musical artist without being a songwriter and many songwriters are not musical artists.
Why can’t it be the same for writers and authors?
There was a time when it was frowned upon to have your name on a book if you didn’t write it.
Ghostwriting was very hush-hush.
It’s much more accepted now for writers to be contractors and provide an outsourced professional service.
So, you can be an author without being a writer.
Working with a professional ghostwriter breaks down that barrier and allows you to expand your brand and business through authorship.
