Now that I've Done it

For over half a decade, I’ve supported authors from building the basic foundations of a book, to writing the manuscript, and through the various stages of self-publishing.

Albeit, once the manuscript is edited and out of my hands, my role shifts to a supporter and cheerleader while the publishing details are handled by others.

Now, I have new insight into the self-publishing process that I’m excited to incorporate into my services and support.

After all the years of writing for other people, I took the plunge and wrote a novel, something I’ve been dreaming of since high school.

Like many of my clients, I went the route of self-publishing.

While some people think self-publishing is what fiction authors do when they can’t get traditionally published, the truth is, I wanted to self-publish.

There are many reasons I chose not to query and traditionally publish, including an internal rebellion against turning creativity into a mass market that excludes 90% of creatives, but I digress.

I wanted to know the steps it took to self-publish a book.

From formatting the manuscript for printing, cover design and formatting, developing key words and searchable phrases, picking genre categories, and even applying for my book to be part of the Library of Congress catalog, there was a lot to learn.

I have a new appreciation for the process and a new set of skills and insights to bring to the table for my clients.

My book (published under a pseudonym) can be seen here.
