There’s an argument to be made that women, in particular elderly women, are the source of big brain evolution in humans.

The grandmother hypothesis operates off the idea that grandmothers allowed women to have more children in shorter intervals because a grandmother was there to help rear the older children so a mother could focus her time and energy on the youngest.

Thus, a grandmother’s genes spread farther and wider, and long with them, longevity.

As humans developed a longer life span, it allowed their brains to evolve to a larger size. “If you’re going to make a larger brain, it takes longer to make it,” as Professor Barbara Finlay says.

With a look at the big picture, one could argue elderly women were responsible for the evolution of large brains that led humans to their current state of consciousness and intelligence.

I see this as an unsung accomplishment for women.

It’s also a reminder of the importance of connecting with other women.

It was the grandmother/mother/child dynamic that paved the way for longer lifespans and larger brain development.

In today’s world, women business leaders can accomplish great things when they work together and support each other.

We might have it in us to alter entire industries, fields, and narratives.

Throughout history and evolution, women have achieved heights thought impossible and laid the groundwork to change societies, literature, education, technology, etc.

But their voices are silenced, unheard, or forgotten.

We can write the future.
