AI is no substitute for a human writer.

We all know that AI and LLMs are an incredible technological development.

They are advertised for so many uses, like:

• Coding
• Research
• Writing

Even some ghostwriters are picking up the use of LLMs for writing.

Here’s the problem. While it is no doubt advanced technology, it is nowhere near ready to replace human writers.

I’ve worked on manuscripts that were either completely or partially written by AI. They have a lot of problems and it is pretty clear to tell that it was generated by an LLM.

I’ve also had clients want to use AI to “spruce up” the manuscript we wrote together. Every time, we end up using the original manuscript instead of what the LLM “spruces” because when it comes to understanding context and the art of writing and storytelling, AI has a long way to go.

There are plenty of people out there who will tell you that using an LLM to write your book will save you money.

Here are the reasons not to:

• No personalization
• Generic content
• No fact checking process
• No plagiarism checking process
• Ethical issues around copyrighted material used to train LLMs

As an author, it is your reputation and brand you’re representing.

An LLM can’t capture your voice, won’t personalize your manuscript with your experiences, and it won’t understand the nuances in your messaging and branding.

Sure, it will save some money, but what you’re sacrificing won’t be worth it.

I’d suggest wariness of ghostwriters who don’t explicitly state they don’t use AI or LLMs in their writing.

Some will see it as an easy way to pump out more content so they can juggle more clients and bring in more money. Always ask your ghostwriters what their AI policy is before agreeing to work with them.

Maybe one day AI will surpass human writers. As it stands today, there is no substitute for working with an experienced, human ghostwriter.
